Filipino-American community leader Loida Nicolas-Lewis has finally spoken out after weeks of keeping silence and now joined the calls for President Duterte to resign . Nicolas-Lewis was the one whom the President identified, the leading campaigner of defeated presidential bet Mar Roxas, as one of the moving forces to launch a massive rallies against his current administration next year. In her recent interview on ANC, Loida Nicolas-Lewis denied the accusation that she plotted to unseat the President, because she believed in the democratic process.
She also said that she has given the President a chance to prove himself, but Lewis expressed her disappointment after Duterte failed to meet her expectation. “I was impressed at his sincerity. Then I thought he was sincere, that, what keeps people poor in the Philippines is drugs, corruption and injustice. But now what do I see? He’s killing and killing and killing. I would say he is a murderer in that sense,” she said. After Vice President Leni Robredo was allegedly eased out of the president’s cabinet, the Fil-Am community leader has now joined the calls for President's resignation. It can be recalled that Duterte has promised during his campaign that he will get rid of corruption, drugs and criminality in three to six months. “So his promise I will resign in 6 months if the drug epidemic is not solved, he should be true to that promise at least, no extension, resign now President Duterte,” she said. She was also worried that the plan of the defeated Vice Presidential Candidate Bongbong Marcos to steal the Vice Presidency from Leni Robredo to succeed.
