Nagkagulo ang mga Senador dahil kay Sen. De Lima on House show cause order

Senators aligned with the Liberal Party on Thursday rallied behind colleague Leila De Lima following the House of Representatives Committee on Justice issuing a show cause order against her.

The panel ordered De Lima to explain why she should not be held in contempt for supposed obstruction of justice, after her former driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan said she had advised him to skip the committee's proceedings. The panel had found Dayan in contempt before his capture on Tuesday led to his appearing before the committee.

But Senators Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV, Franklin Drilon, and Francis Pangilinan said the House "cannot proceed against a member of another house without violating the principles of co-equality and inter-chamber courtesy."

"The correct procedure is to bring the matter officially before the entire Senate and not directly to one Senator," they said in a statement.
"As aptly noted by our Senate President, 'If they want to respect it [inter-parliamentary courtesy], well and good. If not, 'wag sila magtampo if it’s the other way around,'" they added.

The three senators also slammed the "unparliamentary" conduct of some members of the House panel.

"The disrespectful and condescending line of questioning — which at one point seemed to justify an act of domestic violence — has no place in the halls of Congress," they said.
